Interventions

This is a split-mouth, double-blind, randomized clinical trial. Test group: 30 healthy individuals, with A2 teeth darkened according to the visual scale or darker, one side drawn received a desensitiz
Statistical analysis was conducted by a blinded researcher, who was unaware of which treatment protocol had been applied in each experimental group.

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 35 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy volunteers; both genders; non smokers; age between 18 to 35 years; not having performed teeth whitening before; have all vital anterior teeth; no restorations on anterior teeth; incisor color A2 or darker by evaluation with Vita scale (Vita, Bad Säckingen, Germany)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with severe systemic conditions; with missing front teeth; with teeth infected by caries lesions; anterior teeth with presence of recession; upper teeth with some kind of restorative or prosthetic treatment; patients who have a history of dental hypersensitivity; patients who had tooth discoloration by tetracycline or fluorosis; who uses many medications; fall under the condition of pregnant or lactating

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Evaluate the tooth sensitivity felt during in-office bleaching (45 minutes - measuring every 5 minutes), one hour after, 24 hours and 48 hours after removal of the bleaching agent. Verified by the method of a visual scale with 5 scores (from 0 to 4): 0 - indicates absence of sensitivity; 1 – mild sensitivity; 2 – moderate sensitivity; 3 – considerable sensitivity and 4 – severe sensitivity. It was observed that the reduction in sensitivity during and after tooth bleaching occurred in the same way between the experimental groups.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Evaluate promoted color change. It was verified through a comparison between the tooth color before tooth whitening and the tooth color after tooth whitening, both were measured with a standardized visual scale - Vitta scale. A reduction in tooth color saturation was observed for both experimental groups equally.
