Interventions

This is a clinical trial with a convenience sample of children aged 6 to 8 years with speech sound substitutions. Group randomization was performed by the researchers and protected by the &quot

function in Google Sheets, through randomization with minimization by the degree of speech severity, to ensure better homogeneity in the sample. The control group, composed of four participants, under

Eligibility

Age
6 Years to 8 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children aged between six and eight; both sexes; diagnosed with Phonological Disorder - PD with medium-moderate or moderate-severe degrees of severity; that did not present expressive phonetic changes or did not present phonetic distortions in non-acquired phonemes; and who had not undergone (or were undergoing) speech therapy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children whose guardians did not sign the Informed Consent Form (TCLE) or requested exclusion from the research; who did not agree to the Assent Form (TA) and who did not present a diagnosis of Phonological Disorder - PD or who presented a Phonological Disorder with a medium or severe degree of severity; with hearing loss; with evident neurological changes, with impairment of intellectual abilities; with expressive phonetic changes or that presented phonetic distortions in non-acquired phonemes; unable to understand speech and/or with expressive language changes in linguistic domains (in addition to phonology)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1: Determine whether there will be relationships between the applicability of executive function tasks in conjunction with phonological-based activities in better performance and greater implementation of phonemes in the linguistic system of children with Phonological Disorder.;Outcome found 1: The Cycles Associated with Executive Functions - CAFE model demonstrated greater effectiveness in improving children's phonological performance when compared to the Cycles model. The use of the Cycles Associated with Executive Functions - CAFE model ensured a reduction in phonological processes, changes in severity, and an increase in the percentage of correct consonants produced for all children in the experimental group.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 2: It is expected that the Cycles Associated with Executive Functions - CAFE Model, which includes training with executive functions, will be more effective in the linguistic performance of patients, optimizing therapy and structuring children's phonology more effectively, which may contribute to reducing the intervention period.;Outcome found 2: This study demonstrated that, despite generating changes in the Phonological System - PS, the Cycles model does not guarantee the addition of phonemes to the Phonological System - PS of children; what ensured the acquisition of new phonemes was explicitly mobilizing Executive Functions - EFs, showing that, between the traditional phonological therapy model and the model proposed by this study, the Cycles Associated with Executive Functions - CAFE model was more effective. Therefore, the inclusion of therapeutic approaches that integrate these functions, such as the Cycles Associated with Executive Functions - CAFE model, can offer additional improvements in the phonological profiles of children.
