Age
20 Years to 59 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Men or women aged 20 to 59 years; Body Mass Index (BMI) for obesity grade I or II (between 30 and 39.9kg/m2); presenting changes in serum lipid levels with total cholesterol >200mg/dl and LDL-cholesterol above 130mg/dl, as prescribed by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with renal or hepatic impairment, volunteers who underwent bariatric surgery and who suffered stroke

Expected outcome 1: It is expected that 60-day supplementation with beetroot leaves will lead more beneficial changes compared to the other supplements with fiber and maltodextrin. Among the outcomes, it is expected the improvement of the lipid profile, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides evaluated through biochemical indicators.;Expected outcome 2: Improvement of the anthropometric profile, aiding in weight loss and decrease of the body fat percentage, waist circumference, hip and arm circumference verified by anthropometry and skinfold methods.;Expected outcome 3: Improvement of the glycemic profile, evaluated through biochemical indicators glycemia and fasting insulin.;Found outcome 1: Beetroot leaves supplementation was effective in reducing biochemical parameters: total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol. Maltodextrin supplementation had an effect on LDL cholesterol reduction. Microcrystalline cellulose supplementation had no effect throughout the treatment.;Found outcome 2: Treatment with beetroot leaves was effective in decreasing the mean waist circumference and arm circumference. The group supplemented with maltodextrin presented a reduction in the body fat percentage. Microcrystalline cellulose supplementation had no effect throughout the treatment.;Found outcome 3: Beetroot leaves supplementation was effective in reducing biochemical parameters: glycemia and fasting insulin. For the other groups, no significant changes were found.
