Interventions

Intervention group - 16 patients. Initial evaluation with specific questionnaires. Two sessions of preoperative pelvic physiotherapy and verbal and written instructions on how to maintain the exercise

40 Years to 75 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients between 40 and 75 years; Diagnosis of prostate cancer; eligible to radical retropubic prostatectomy at Santa Casa de Porto Alegre; Informed consent; Participate in the initial assessment and willingness to perform two sessions of preoperative pelvic physiotherapy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with previous pelvic radiotherapy; neurological diseases; previous prostatic transurethral resection; Urinary incontinence; Erectile dysfunction and inability to do pelvic exercises.

Better urinary continence indices in the patients in the preoperative physiotherapy group than in the control group using the ICIQ-SF questionnaire or the specific question of the anamnesis with statistically significance (p<0,05).;There was no statistically significant difference in terms of urinary continence assessed through ICIQ-SF or the specific question about continence between patients in the preoperative pelvic physiotherapy group or the control group. After 3 months of surgery, 73% of incontinents were found in the control group and 70% in the physiotherapy group.

Better erectile function indexes in patients of the preoperative physiotherapy group compared to the control group measured using the IIEF-5 questionnaire with statisctical significance (p0.05)
