Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Volunteers of both genders, with technical unfamiliarity with respect to the Pilates Method; to be sedentary; absence of current inflammatory processes derived from musculoskeletal or cardiopulmonary diseases, and absence of previous surgeries on back and abdominal regions.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Presence of some clinical condition at the recruitment moment in order to preclude or to result risk factor to damage or to hurt the volunteer; to use regular medicine which reverberate effects on cardiopulmonary system.
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Mean difference on measurements of global heart rate variability in terms of 20% between groups, obtained with use of Polar V800 model (Polar Electro, Finland), equipment previously validated to capture heart rate beat-to-beat. Then, general behavior will be registered after experimental period, including samples of 1000 Hz. In order to analyze results, 1,000 consecutive RR intervals will be used, after removal of ectopic beats. Only series superior to 95% of sinusal beats will be included in study. Heart rate variability will be analyzed with geometric methods and Poincare plot. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Increase superior to 10% in scores of life quality, evaluated with Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and functionality, analyzed with tests for handgrip strength and 1-Mile track walk test, in experimental group compared to control. Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and functionality survey will be applicated at the initial moment and within one week after experimental protocol. | — |
