Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Fibromyalgia Diagnostics; Female patients with FM (ages from 30 to 69) were selected from the Physiotherapy Clinic of the University of Southern Santa Catarina (UNISUL), Brazil.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of active or previous neoplastic conditions, infection or making use of oral or local corticosteroids or anti-cytokine therapy that could influence cytokines serum levels. All of the participants were advised not to do any other regular physical activity outside the exercise program.

Outcome 1: Assessment of pain score Method: A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to identify the degree of pain of the participants over the 6 weeks, being applied 3 x per week. Then, at each beginning and at the end of the session with aquatic exercise the participant was asked about their current pain on a scale of 0 (no pain) to 10 (maximum pain) presented by means of an adapted tape with the graduations. Collection time: This scale was presented both at the beginning and at the end of the aquatic exercise sessions over 6 weeks.

Outcome 2: Evaluation of muscle surface temperature in the anterior cervical, epicondyl, costochondral and trapezius regions. Method: A 320 × 240 pixel ThermaCAM® E320 (FLIR Systems Inc., Wilsonville, Oregon) resolution infrared camera was used in the far infrared spectral range (7.5 to 13 ?m) with a sensitivity of 0.1 ° C, was placed on a tripod to record thermal images. The sensor converts the infrared energy radiated by the skin into a thermogram that represents the exact temperature of its surface. The recorded thermograms were processed and analyzed by QuickReport v.1.2 SP2 software (FLIR, USA). The thermal distribution on the skin surface is shown in a color palette next to the thermograms. The hottest parts are displayed in white, the average temperatures in red and yellow, while blue represents the cooler surfaces.
