Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement of executive functions, verified by the Stroop test and the following subtests of the fourth edition of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - WISC-IV: Cubes; Digit Span Test (Direct Order Digit - Reverse Order); Sequence of numbers and letters; Cancellation. Improvement verified by the observation of a variation of at least five percent in the pre and post intervention measurements, favorable to the intervention group.;The Improvement in attention and working memory (components of executive functions) were evaluated specifically by the WISC-IV digit sub-test. Although not statistically significant, the analysis of the Digits test indicated positive results for the intervention group (interaction group * moment: F = 3.30, p = 0.07). The comparison of the effect size of the digit test showed a favorable difference to the intervention group (GC: small TE and GE: medium TE). The evaluation of the effect of class attendance on cognitive outcomes showed that individuals who attended more than 70% of classes offered better results in the digit test after the intervention period with Capoeira (T = 2.87, p = 0.008 ).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement of performance in the physical tests of agility and hand-eye motor coordination. Improvement verified from the observation of a variation of at least five percent in the pre and post intervention measurements, favorable to the intervention group. ;Improvement in hand-eye motor coordination, verified by a signinificant interaction group*moment (F:8.79, p=0.006), favorable to the intervention group.;Improved academic performance as measured by the School Performance Test. Improvement verified from the observation of a variation of at least five percent in the pre and post intervention measurements, favorable to the intervention group.;There was no significant difference in academic achievement test, in group*moment interaction (F=0.009 p: 0.92).
