Eligibility

Age
60 Years to 100 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults older than 65 years of age; of both sexes; who lived in healthy nursing homes and who agreed to participate in the study by signing the ICF.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Elderly patients who did not understand some of the steps of the proposed protocols; with a body mass index above 35 mL / kg²; or with some degree of orthopedic or neurological limitation that made the tests impossible were excluded.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Maintenance of C-reactive protein (PCR) after six months of respiratory muscle training, verified by blood analysis, without variation of PCR;Increased respiratory muscle strength after six months of respiratory muscle training, analyzed by manovacuometry, verified by a 10% variation in respiratory muscle strength

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement in quality of life after six weeks of respiratory muscle training, evaluated with the SF-36 questionnaire, with improvements in functional capacity domains and limitations due to physical aspects;Improved functionality after six weeks of respiratory muscle training, assessed through the sit-up test, with an increase in the number of test repetitions for 30 seconds
