Conditions

Muscle stretching exercises

Interventions

Experimental group: 15 physically active men and women will perform one passive static stretching session lasting 10 minutes
Control group: 15 physically active men and women will remain at rest. In both groups, the following variables will be evaluated: range of motion, passive torque and myotendinous junction displacement

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 40 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Young adults; Age between 18 and 40 years old; Physically active subjects

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Perform strength or flexibility training in the last six months; previous history of musculoskeletal injury in lower limbs which interfere in test performance; continuous pain in lower members; joint hypermobility; continuous use of anti-inflammatories, analgesics and muscle relaxants

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Passive torque measurement reduction after the stretching application, as measured by the isokinetic dynamometer in newton metre, from the finding in absolute numbers of significant reduction of passive torque through comparative statistical analysis between groups

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Increase in ankle flexibility, measured through angular variation in the isokinetic dynamometer; from the finding in absolute numbers of significant increase of ankle flexibility through comparative statistical analysis between groups;Increase of the muscle-tendon junction displacement of the Achilles tendon with the medial gastrocnemius, measured through calculated distances in centimetres in ultrasound images; from the finding in absolute numbers of significant increase of muscle-tendon junction displacement through comparative statistical analysis between groups;Decrease in muscle-tendon stiffness, muscle stiffness and tendinous stiffness, measured throught calculation with muscle-tendon junction displacement and passive torque measures; from the finding in absolute numbers of significant decrease of these variables through comparative statistical analysis between groups
