Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria were considered: both genders; age between 40 and 70 years; be hypertensive, according to the VII Arterial Hypertension Guideline (SBC, 2016); have clinical stability, as assessed by the cardiologist and / or clinician and medical certificate for participation in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria adopted were: to have diabetes and heart diseases; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma; obesity grade III; musculoskeletal and / or neuromuscular changes, which make it impossible to perform the tests and physical training; some other clinical condition diagnosed after the mandatory exams for inclusion in the program; participation in physical training programs, at the time of screening, in the last six months, and during the study; and absence in three consecutive classes in the training program.

Body Mass Index (BMI): it was determined by the relationship between body mass (BM) in kilograms and the square of height (H), in meters (BM/H2), before and after 16 weeks of intervention. It was used an anthropometric digital scale of the Welmy brand (Santa Bárbara d 'Oeste, São Paulo, Brazil).;Incremental Shuttle Walking Test (ISWT): a progressive loading test, before and after 16 weeks of intervention, was used to evaluate the functional capacity, by means of the distance traveled, in a corridor with 10 meters in length, and obeying to the sound signal, programmed by a software, which indicates the moment to start the next turn. The test consists of 12 stages, with a successive increase of 1 lap at each stage, totaling 14 laps. As the test progresses, the interval between the beeps decreases, increases the number of laps and the speed of the walk. The test is finished if the volunteer does not reach the end of the runner before the sound signal, in a second attempt, and record the distance traveled from the number of complete laps.After two attempts, the highest number of laps performed was recorded.;6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) The test was performed, before and after 16 weeks of intervention, in a corridor 30 meters long and 3 meters wide. The volunteers were instructed to walk for six minutes, without jogging or running, and according to their effort, being able to stop, slow down or rest in order to complete the walk without stopping time on the clock. The scores obtained in the 6MWT were used in the evaluation of cardiorespiratory capacity: VO2 (mL x min-1x kg-1) = -2.863 + (0.0563 x distance covered in the test).
