Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Women with low-risk prenatal care, hospitalized for parturition in the maternity of the HCPA during the study period with the ability to understand and sign the ICF.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Maternal: Gestational age below 37 weeks, HIV infection, Rh isoimmunization, severe maternal anemia (hemoglobin < 9g/dL), pregnancy diabetes, placenta previa, placenta detachment, HELLP syndrome, maternal coagulopathy. Newborns who presented some of the following conditions: tight cervical cord circular, hypotonic Newborns, meconial amniotic fluid.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate maternal hemoglobin variation before and after delivery with delayed clamping of the umbilical cord. During the study, blood samples were collected from patients before and after parturition. Were analyzed the value of hematocrit, hemoglobin and ferritin in both moments. The analyses were performed at the hematology laboratory from Clinical Hospital of Porto Alegre (HCPA). It was considered outcome variation of 0.3 of hematocrit values.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the occurrence of uterine hypotonia between late and early umbilical cord clamping -clinical evaluation criterion; determine the frequency of maternal complications after late umbilical cord clamping - clinical evaluation criterion; to determine the average days of hospitalization in late and early cord clamping- clinical evaluation criterion; to assess the need for phototherapy in newborns where late cord clamping was instituted- clinical evaluation criterion; To compare the need for ICU admission in neonates with different clamping- clinical evaluation criterion;
