Skeletal Muscle Enlargement

Interventions

A randomized longitudinal study with within-subject design will be conducted involving 15 young adults. The research will consist of three stages: 1) pre-training assessments
2) the implementation of a resistance training program, which will consist of three sessions per week for 10 weeks
3) post-training assessments. All assessments and training will take place at the School of Physical Education and Sports in Ribeirão Preto. Pre-training assessments will be conducted on two separate

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 35 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults aged between 18 and 35 years of both sexes; without musculoskeletal injuries in the last 12 months; and with no medical contraindications for physical exercise

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Inability to train at the proposed times; a history of musculoskeletal injury in the upper limbs within the last 12 months; and the presence of any health issues that may interfere with the execution of the proposed exercises and assessments

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
After intervention, we expect a significative increase in the maximum isometric torque (Nm) of elbow extension and flexion for both co-contraction and resistance training groups. We expect that both groups will improve similarly.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
After intervention, we expect a significative increase in the muscle thickness (mm) of elbow extensors and flexors muscles for both co-contraction and resistance training groups. We expect that both groups will improve similarly.
