Interventions

A group of 52 students will be studied in 2 consecutive phases: 1) Phase I or pre-intervention phase: it will last six months
In this time, the students will be evaluated for nutritional status using anthropometric parameters (weight and height) and body composition (fat-free mass and fat mass by electrical bioimpedance)
These evaluations will be carried out at the beginning (month 1) and end (month 6) of phase I
With these data the basal rhythms of growth and alteration of the corporal composition of each child and of the group will be defined. 2) Phase II or intervention phase: it will last 3 months
Nutritional assessments will be redone with the same group of chindren (same parameters used in phase I) at the beginning (month 1) and end (month 3) of this phase
Experimental foods will be tested at this stage
the effects of nutritional intervention on the rhythms of growth and changes in the body composition of each child and the group will be determined based on the results of the nutritional evaluations

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children aged 6 to 11 enrolled in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd years of elementary school of a public school in the city of Santa Maria - RS - Brazil, and who responded positively to the invitation (written and spoken) to participate in the study; children whose parents or guardians voluntarily signed the Informed Consent Term.

Exclusion criteria

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in fat-free mass of children(grams/30 days), as measured by electrical bioimpedance, after the nutritional intervention.;After the nutritional intervention, fat free mass increased from 250 to 620 grams / 30 days, and this increase was statistically significant (p <0.001).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes are not expected.;No secondary outcomes were observed.
