5 Years to 12 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children with need to perform tongue frenulum surgery referred to the Child and Adolescent Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of UFRGS.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children with head and neck malformations and cognitive changes;children who have already performed surgical procedure for the frenulum of the tongue; children who underwent or undergo speech therapy; children without upper and / or lower incisor teeth.

Modifications of the anatomy (shape of the tip of the tongue and the relationship between the measures of maximum mouth opening and maximum opening of the mouth with the apex of the tongue touching the incisive papilla), posture (tongue on the floor of the mouth, between the anterior or posterior teeth). teeth laterally), tongue mobility (protrusion, retraction, elevation, lateralization, apex vibration and palate sucking) and speech function (omission, replacement and distortion of phonemes, mouth opening, tongue position, movement velocity, speech accuracy as a whole), verified through the application of the Assessment Protocol of the Frenulum of the Tongue, from the observation of a variation of at least 5% in the pre-intervention measurements, 15 and 30 days after the intervention. lingual frenulum surgery, as well as from the finding of a variation of at least 5% in the pre-intervention measurements, 15 and 30 days associated with isotonic tongue exercises.
