Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected outcome 1: It was expected that both the Pilates group and the Resistance Training group would improve their performance in physical fitness tests over the 24 weeks. ;Outcome found 1: In the resistance training group, a significant evolution was observed for the elbow flexion variable, both between the 24 and pre-week periods (47.1% increase, equivalent to 6 repetitions, p = 0.001), and for the 24 and 12 week periods (24% increase, approximately 4 repetitions, p = 0.029). In the Pilates group, there was an improvement of 30.1% in the variable lifting and sitting (about 3 repetitions, p = 0.026) comparing the 24 weeks and pre moments and an increase of 36% (about 4 repetitions, p = 0.010) between 24 weeks and 12 weeks. In the elbow flexion variable there was an increase of 47.1% (about 6 repetitions, p = 0.000) between the beginning and the end of the intervention and an increase of 24% (about 4 repetitions, p = 0.044) between the middle and the end of the intervention. No intergroup differences were found.;Expected outcome 2:It was also expected that the quality of life of the elderly in the experimental groups would improve throughout the intervention.;Outcome found 2: There was an improvement in the Social Participation domain for the GP (p <0.05). In the GTR, a significant difference was found for the Mental Health domain (p = 0.012). In the CG, there was an improvement in the Social Participation domain (p = 0.026) and Total WHOQOL-OLD Score (p = 0.027). In the intergroup comparisons, there was a difference in the WHOQOL-BREF Total Score of the GP and GTR, with the GP presenting a better QOL at the beginning of the study (p = 0.032). The Vitality of the GTR (p = 0.009) and CG (p = 0.045) improved in relation to the GP. The CG had a better score at 12 weeks compared to the GTR in the Past, Present and Future Activities facet (p = 0.027).
