Conditions

Darkened teeth

Interventions

Interventions consist of tooth bleaching, divided into two groups. Led Group (n = 20): 2 tooth bleaching sessions, with an interval of seven days between sessions. Each session consists of 2 cycles of
and in the second session: before bleaching, immediately after, 24h, 1 week and 1 month after the 2nd bleaching session.

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 35 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Sign the consent form; availability to attend all sessions; age between 18 and 35 years; good health, controlled blood pressure, and adequate oral hygiene; pulp vitality in the teeth to be bleached (1st PM on one side to 1st PM on the opposite side in the upper and lower arches); color of teeth above A2 on the VITA scale, visually identified.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Smoker; pregnant or lactating; heart problems; history of known reaction to peroxides; individual or family history of neoplasia in the oropharynx region and surroundings; history of diabetes or other systemic diseases, which can interfere with the access of tissues from the oral cavity; need antibiotic therapy before dental prophylaxis; presence of oral pathologies, xerostomia, caries lesions, extensive restorations of composite resin, fractures or splinters in the teeth, gingivitis/periodontitis, bruxism, which in the professional's opinion may compromise the participant's health or the results of the study; presence of surface irregularities, tetracycline stain, discoloration due to trauma, fluorosis, hypoplasia, dental implant, prosthesis and/or endodontic treatment in upper or lower anterior teeth, or other parameters that may make it difficult to measure tooth color; have made use of bleaching agents in the office or at home in the last year (does not include toothpaste or bleaching mouthwash); spontaneous tooth sensitivity; intention to put a fixed orthodontic appliance during the bleaching assessment period.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Expected primary outcome: The expected outcome is that the planned clinical interventions produce whitening in the participants' dental elements. It is expected that the carbamide peroxide group activated with violet LED (Ledv / PC) will perform 10% below the average observed for the LP15 group of a previously performed work (DELAFIORI, 2015), and that the violet LED group (Ledv ) performs 40% less than the LP15 group mentioned above. In other words, the Ledv / PC protocol is expected to achieve better immediate performance and maintain it for 12 months compared to the Ledv protocol. For this verification, the degree of color change (Delta E) will be analyzed with a spectrophotometer. With the spectrophotometer, the color of the dental elements will be obtained and recorded in the proposed time intervals. The color will be provided based on the CIELab color system, where L * represents the brightness values, a * the red-green values ??and b * the yellow-blue values. These values ??are numeric and, using a formula (Delta E = [(Delta l *) 2 + (Delta a *) 2 (Delta b *) 2] ½), the degree of color change (Delta E) will be calculated ( COMMISSION INTERNATIONALE DE L'ECLAIRAGE, 1978). Delta E value above 1.0 characterizes that there was a color change.;Effectively observed outcome: Both protocols were effective in promoting tooth whitening, and the Ledv / PC group showed more effective performance. The observed outcome is in line with what was expected. Delta E and the standard deviation obtained immediately after the interventions were: group Ledv / PC = 5.20 ± 1.34; Ledv group = 2.29 ± 0.45. At the time 12 months, the Delta E and standard deviation observed were: group Ledv / PC = 4.05 ± 1.18; Ledv group = 2.66 ± 0.81.
