Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: institutionalized elderly people over 70 years of age who were undergoing regular medical monitoring; medical indication for motor physiotherapy; physical autonomy when leaving bed and who were not performing physical activity regularly; ability to make decisions

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: elderly people with physical independence restricted to bed; wheelchair users or those who were not physically capable of walking and hemodynamic instability; severe heart disease or uncontrolled systemic arterial hypertension verified by the doctor

Outcome found 1: Regarding functionality, our data directed to Timed Up and Go, show that for both control and intervention groups, the applicability of muscle strengthening training alone or associated with sensorimotor exercises proved to be effective for the elderly population monitored during the period 12 weeks. In the TUG variable, it is shown that there was no significant difference between the CG and IG when analyzing the moments before and after the 12 weeks of intervention. On the other hand, when analyzing the before and after for each group separately, both showed a significant difference (CG p=0.002; IG p<0.001). The variable that symbolizes the difference in data between after and before the TUG is also highlighted, with a non-significant value between the two groups.;Expected outcome 2: Sensorimotor exercises promote greater gains in muscle strength in the intervention group when compared to the control group;Outcome found 2: Due to the choice of exercise protocol aimed at muscle strengthening in both the control and intervention groups, it was noticed that there was a significant gain in strength in both. In turn, when comparing the differences in the results obtained (final result - initial assessment) between the CG and IG, there was no significant difference for any muscle group or side (dominant or non-dominant), showing that despite there being a gain in muscle strength, when correlating with the groups, there was no excess of values.;Expected outcome 3: The imbalance is more associated with the sensory system than with the gain in muscular strength;Outcome found 3: When raising the hypothesis that sensorimotor exercises affect balance with greater significance, it was found that the sensorimotor exercises covered in the intervention group induced significant improvements in all aspects related to balance through the SPPB test battery.
