Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria were patients undergoing comprehensive orthodontic treatment 1 to 6 months before study commencement, with 11 to 17 years of age, from both sexes, with complete permanent dentition.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were patients with cavitated dental caries, developmental enamel alterations (enamel hypoplasia and fluorosis), and use of antibiotics during the follow-up period.
