Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 30 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age between 18 and 30 years; no diagnosed illnesses; not using any medication; not vegan or vegetarian; and no smoking habits.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Smokers; individuals with chronic non-communicable diseases; obese individuals (BMI greater than or equal to 30 kg/m2); individuals with cardiovascular disease and kidney disease; vegetarians/vegans; and breastfeeding mothers.

Expected outcome 1: An increase in postprandial skin autofluorescence (SAF) values ??is expected after consuming a meal rich in advanced glycation end products. The SAF value would be related to the circulating AGEs value. ;Expected outcome 2: Consumption of orange juice along with the AGE-rich meal could modulate the increase in postprandial SAF.

Outcome found 1: Baseline SAF values ??(1.54 ± 0.26) did not indicate an increased metabolic risk after consumption of a diet rich in advanced glycation end products. ;Outcome found 2: No significant change in SAF was detected at any time point or between treatments (orange juice consumption or placebo). ;Outcome found 3: Postprandial blood glucose levels increased 4 h after the meal in the orange juice group (p = 0.039).
