Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome

Interventions

This is a prospective clinical study
randomized
with blind evaluator
with two arms
the total number of participants will be 66 participants with pain in the face and cervical region
divided into 2 groups
control group (33 participants) and intervention group (33 participants)
randomized through an electronically generated randomization board and made sequential and opaque envelopes to maintain the secrecy of allocation
the study will have a 180-days follow-up
the participants of the intervention group will have an explanation about their diagnosis
guidance on possible deleterious habits and how to control
self-care with the home performance of thermotherapy with heat 1x a day
every day
for 180 days
and slowly opening and closing exercise of the mouth that should be repeated 10 times
1x/day
the control group will wait on a waiting list

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 65 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients between 18 and 65 years of age; men and women; classification of muscular Temporomandibular Disorders according to the diagnostic criteria in research for Temporomandibular Disorders (myofascial pain and myofascial pain with limitation of opening); with pain for more than 3 months; complaint of pain in the face and mechanical-postural Cervicalgia grade I or II; according to Neck Pain Task Force for more than 3 months on the Numerical Scale of Pain between 3- 8 cm; agreement and signing of the Free and Informed Consent Form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with neuromuscular diseases; autoimmune or rheumatological diseases; cervical pain that is not of postural mechanical origin; cervicogenic neck pain; cervical trauma related to pain; use of orthodontic appliances; have changed or started medication in the last 3 months; practice of physical activity started or changed in the last 3 months
