Age
18 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age over 18 years; both sexes; critically ill patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit; prior mobility with an Intensive Care Unit Mobility Score of 10; peripheral muscle weakness defined by handgrip strength values lower than 16 for women and lower than 27 for men; or values below the predicted in the five-repetition sit-to-stand test; acceptance to participate in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who require orotracheal intubation during protocol execution; worsening of clinical condition or instability preventing training for more than two days; protocol execution time and actigraph monitoring shorter than four days; death; and withdrawal from participation

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
An increase in endurance and muscle strength, assessed by muscle ultrasound, the Short Physical Performance Battery, the Fatigue Resistance Test, and the Bed Bridge Test, is expected in patients who underwent resistance training

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement in physical behavior assessed by actigraphy is expected to be associated with increased endurance and muscle strength in patients who underwent resistance training.;Patients who undergo resistance training are expected to have a shorter hospital stay and improvements in activities of daily living, assessed by the Barthel Index, and in quality of life, measured by the EQ-5D-3L: EuroQoL - 5 domains - 3 long-term impacts.
