Eligibility

Age
40 Years to 70 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Aged between 40 and 70 years. Active staff member of the University of São Paulo with a weekly workload greater than 30 hours. Reporting less than 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity physical activity. Availability to participate in all stages of the 16 week protocol

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Medical contraindications to moderate intensity physical activity identified during initial screening using the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and health history assessment. Pregnancy or planned extended leave from work during the study period. Participation in another formal physical activity program involving more than 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity physical activity. Refusal to use monitoring devices including triaxial accelerometer and smartband

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the change in the volume of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity objectively measured by triaxial accelerometry and expressed in minutes per week comparing values obtained at baseline at week eight and at week sixteen, this being the primary outcome used to assess the effect of the intervention

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the change in total physical activity volume expressed in minutes per week and in metabolic equivalent of task minutes per week measured by triaxial accelerometry at baseline at week eight and at week sixteen; To evaluate the change in light intensity physical activity volume expressed in minutes per week measured by triaxial accelerometry at baseline at week eight and at week sixteen; To evaluate the change in average daily step count measured by smartband and triaxial accelerometry at baseline at week eight and at week sixteen; To evaluate the change in total time spent in sedentary behavior expressed in minutes per day measured by triaxial accelerometry at baseline at week eight and at week sixteen
