Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 50 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: To be eligible, participants must: have an incomplete motor spinal cord injury of any neurological level and any etiology; have a chronic spinal cord injury, i.e., more than six months since the injury, with no upper time limit; be between 18 and 50 years old; be able to walk at least ten meters, with or without a walking aid, but without assistance from others; have a walking speed between 0.20 m/s and 1.00 m/s; be available to perform at least 75% of the in-person protocol and homework assignments; and have the possibility and ability to cancel other interventions aimed at improving mobility during the study period.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Insufficient level of understanding and communication to complete the Lower Extremity Motor Activity Log without assistance in less than 30 minutes, as therapists will administer the instrument daily during the intervention and need to complete it within this pre-established time; and some musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, or neurological condition not associated with spinal cord injury that has a direct effect on independence for mobility activities.

Functional independence for mobility activities is assessed using the mobility domain of the Spinal Cord Independence Measure III, with a score ranging from 0 to 40, where the higher the score, the better the individual's independence for mobility activities, between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.

Secondary

Use of lower limbs during mobility activities in a real-world environment, assessed using the Lower Extremity Motor Activity Log, with a score ranging from 0 to 10, where a higher score indicates greater use of the lower limbs, between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Lower limb function was assessed using the Lower Extremity Motor Function Test between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Functional capacity was assessed using the 6-Minute Walk Test, with scores based on distance walked between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Gait speed assessed using the 10 Meter Walk Test, with scores in meters per second between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Ability to transfer from sitting to standing, assessed by the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test, with scores in seconds between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Functional mobility was assessed using the Timed Up and Go test, with scores measured in seconds between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;Movement patterns during mobility activities were assessed using the Timed Up and Go Assessment of Biomechanical Strategies, with a score ranging from 15 to 45, where higher scores indicate better movement patterns, between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.;The ability to walk was assessed using the Walking Index in Spinal Cord Injury, with scores ranging from 0 to 20, between 1 and 5 days after the intervention and 4 weeks after the intervention.
