For inclusion in the study, the minimum age will be 50 years and maximum 80 years. This study will be open and there will be no masking. The distribution of participants is: Arm 1 - Normal or healthy

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individuals of both sexes between 50 and 80 years, which presented diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA) according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology, accompanied by radiological evidence, affecting one or more compartments of the knee, at the mild or moderate, with knee pain for six months or more and bilateral involvement.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants will have other musculoskeletal changes, chronic inflammatory diseases such as autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc), diabetes mellitus, and neuromuscular disorders such as Parkinson's disease, vertigo and other conditions that may affect the sensory and control of movement.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected that subjects with osteoarthritis, compared with healthy subjects, present greater pain (measured by pressure threshold algometer given in kgf;Poorer muscle recruitment patterns (increase in mean normalized electromyographic activity for each muscle in each phase of movement);Major error in proprioceptive acuity (assessed positioning errors by electro goniometer). This outcome will be obtained in the first evaluation of all groups;After training, subjects from both osteoarthritis groups are expected to experience pain reduction (as measured by a pain threshold pressure given by kgf);Improvement of muscle recruitment patterns (increase in mean normalized electromyographic activity for each muscle in each phase of movement);Improved joint position sense (assessed positioning errors by electro goniometer) compared to pre-training data;Among the forms of training the results are expected to be similar in all proposed evaluations. These outcomes will be obtained at the second assessment after training

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement in motor behavior (electromyographic activity) during movements up and down stairs, with steps of different heights in with and without osteoarthritis.This outcome will be assessed by the muscle recruitment pattern of (mean normalized EMG activity for each muscle in each movement phase) according to the angular range (assessed by electro goniometer)
