Interventions

This is a two-arm randomized controlled open-label clinical trial. A total of 120 participants will be randomly allocated into two groups of 60 participants each. Randomization will be performed using
s conventional preoperative fasting protocol, consisting of approximately eight hours of fasting before surgery. Each participant will receive the intervention only once during the preoperative period

Age
18 Years to 65 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: First stage: volunteers who agree to participate in the study; aged between 18 and 65 years; of both sexes. Second stage, for both the test and control groups: individuals aged between 18 and 65 years; of both sexes; undergoing elective surgery, regardless of the specialty and surgical team involved in the procedure; who agree to participate voluntarily

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: First and second stages: allergy to any of the components of the instant coffee-flavored product. Second stage, test group: pregnant women; individuals with diabetes; individuals with gastropathies or gastroesophageal reflux, due to the possibility of delayed gastric emptying. Control group: no exclusion criteria will apply

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the effect of consuming 200 mL of an instant coffee-flavored carbohydrate beverage administered two hours before anesthesia induction on preoperative satiety compared with the conventional fasting protocol. Satiety will be assessed using a validated numerical rating scale before surgery.

Secondary

To evaluate the effect of consuming the instant coffee-flavored carbohydrate beverage on preoperative thirst intensity using a numerical rating scale before surgery.;To evaluate the effect of consuming the instant coffee-flavored carbohydrate beverage on preoperative thirst intensity using a numerical rating scale before surgery.;To evaluate the acceptability of the instant coffee-flavored beverage using an acceptance test administered to participants after beverage consumption.
