Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: People aged 18 or older; have self-reported episode of alcohol consumption within the last 30 days; be under medical follow-up at the Outpatient Alcoholism Program (PAA); be available to participate in five Motivational Nursing Consultations (CEM), within a 90-day interval
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Present visible difficulty to understand and express oneself as a result of alcohol consumption or self-reported or recorded cognitive neurological sequelae in an online medical record; severe psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia or psychotic disorder; refusal to answer follow-up questionnaires; inability to attend five Motivational Nursing Consultations (CEM), within a 90-day interval. To avoid a measurement bias, participants with ongoing hospitalization, after the start of the research, did not have their data included for analysis, as the consumption pattern may have been influenced by the hospitalization event rather than by the offer of the Motivational Nursing Consultations (CEM), as they were in a secluded environment
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Expected primary outcome 1: It is expected to find a reduction in the number of drinking days and heavy drinking days over a 90-day period, verified using the adapted Quick Drinking Assessment Interview (FORM-90-AQ).;Found primary outcome 1: A statistically significant reduction of 9.6 days in the drinking pattern and 9.0 days in heavy drinking over the last 30 days was observed, verified using the adapted Quick Drinking Assessment Interview (FORM-90-AQ), after the 90-day intervention period. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Expected secondary outcome 1: It is expected to find a reduction in anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms, evaluated by the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21); a reduction in the level of dependence, evaluated by the Short Alcohol Dependence Data (SADD); and an increase in readiness to change, evaluated by a readiness ruler, culminating in improved perceived change, evaluated by the Questionnaire of Perceived Changes (QPC) over a 90-day period.;Found secondary outcome 1: A statistically significant reduction was observed in stress (-2.6 points) and depression (-2.9 points) symptoms by the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), along with a reduction in the dependence level score (-2.9 points) by the Short Alcohol Dependence Data (SADD), and an increase in perceived change (+2.8 points) by the Questionnaire of Perceived Changes (QPC). No statistically significant effects were observed for anxiety symptoms and readiness to change. | — |
