Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 4 to 9 years of age; with at least one carious lesion involving only the occlusal surfaces of primary molars upper or lower; active lesion; cavitation of at most 2 millimeters (mm) in diameter; radiographically limited if the outer half of dentin;

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: systemic disease; under 4 years or more than 9; inactive caries lesion; caries lesion involving other surface beyond the occlusal; lesions in the inner half of dentin;

MeasureTime frame
Clinical and radiographic success rate of two methods of caries removal. The outcome will be based on clinical and radiographic success rate, which will be evaluated as follows: Clinical success. - using modified USPHS criteria (United State Public Health Service) for clinical evaluation (6 to 24 months). This criterion clinically evaluates aspects of the restorations, as marginal discoloration, anatomical shape, marginal integrity and existence of caries lesions adjacent . results a and B considered successful and results C and D regarded as failure. The results will be presented in the form of prevalence. Radiographic success - if radiographically there is the suggestion of progression or not of carious lesion and the existence of any changes in furca region - between the roots - (6 to 24 months). These changes will be considered as failure. visually assessed criterion for blind evaluator.;In total, 35 teeth (19 that underwent TCR and 16 that underwent PCR) were followed up at year 2. At year 2, the success rates for each group were 89,47% and 93,75% for TCR and PCR, respectively (p > 0.05).

Main causes of restorative failure ;The cause of failure in the PCR group was a secondary caries lesion (1 teeth). In the TCR group, the causes of failure included restoration fracture (1 teeth) and increased radiolucency under the restorative material, suggesting progression of carious lesions (1 teeth).
