Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male; aged between 19 and 45 years; with a history of sports practice for more than 6 months with cycling exercises of at least 6 hours per week or 200 km per week

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Smoking; chronic diseases; metabolic disorders; physical disabilities; musculoskeletal injuries; reporting consumption of vitamin and mineral supplements, ergogenic resources (carnitine, arginine, creatine, caffeine, nitrate, beta-alanine, and sodium bicarbonate), use of steroids in the last six months; and use of medications in the previous week

To evaluate the biomarker glutathione peroxidase (GPx), according to the method described by Wendel (1981). To evaluate reduced glutathione (GSH), according to the method described by Giustarini et al. (2013). To evaluate total phenols according to the method described by Serafini, Maiani, and Ferro-Luzzi (1998). To evaluate protein carbonyls (PC), according to the method described by Levine et al. (1990). To evaluate malondialdehyde (MDA) according to the methodology described by Domijan et al. (2014) and Grotto et al. (2007), with modifications. Hemoglobin was used to express the GSH and GPx results and was evaluated through the colorimetric technique using a (UV-1800 – Shimadzu® Tokyo, Japan), automatic spectrophotometer with (Labtest® Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Ref: 43) kit. To evaluate lactate, capillary blood samples (25 µL) were collected through fingertip puncture using a portable lactate analyzer (Accutrend Plus® - Roche) (Basel, Canton, Switzerland). For all these biomarkers, a significant difference of 10% is expected to be detected after the intervention.;To evaluate the fatigue index, measured based on the peak power percentage reductions during the 5 s sprint immediately after the time-to-exhaustion in relation to the baseline, considering a significant difference of 10%, after intervention.;To evaluate performance, according to the time until the end of time-to-exhaustion, considering detecting a significant difference of at least 5% after intervention.
