Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Being 18 years of age or older; scoring normal on Mini Mental State Exam, considering education level; presenting a leg ulcer with clinical signs of impaired venous circulation with ou without the low impairment of arterial circulation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: People with liver disease, people with kidney disease, people who present no palpable peripheral arterial pulses, preventing the verification of ankle arm index (AAI); people who had an AAI less than 0.8 or greater than 1.3, or intermittent claudication when walking 250 meters or less which fades at rest, or paleness on elevation of the affected limb, even with AAI within the inclusion criteria

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Cicatrization - complete closure of the lesion detected by epithelialization of the entire bed of the injury, sustained for one week.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Progress of cicatrization: obtained through PRESSURE ULCER SCALE FOR HEALING score;Ulcer healing rate - determined by calculating the reduction rate of the lesion area through the equation: W0 - W1 / W0 × 100; Where W0 = initial area and W1 = final area. ;Resolvability - calculated by dividing the number of participants who had all wounds completely healed by the total number of study participants ;Positive self-evaluation of health - assessed by the scores "very good", "good" on self-evaluation of questions of absolute health and in comparison with others.;Quality of life – evaluated through the descriptors of the CHARING CROSS Questionnaire for venous ulcers.;Intensity of pain in the leg caused by the lesion – obtained through numeric scale (0-10). ;Pain intensity related to the dressing process (during and for 20 minutes after) - obtained by numerical scale (0-10). ;Quality of pain – evaluated using the McGill Pain Questionnaire.
