Age
8 Years to 15 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Be between 8 and 15 years of age; clinical diagnosis of cancer, being undergoing chemotherapy within the time of the research (the participant may be receiving chemotherapy or during the same period), being hospitalized in the oncology unit of HIJG (Joana de Gusmão Children's Hospital), having received the diagnosis of cancer for at least 10 days.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Parents or responsible medical staff do not accept participation in the research; children or adolescents admitted to the ICU with end-stage cancer or an inconclusive clinical diagnosis.

Improvement in pain symptoms, assessed by the visual analogue scale (VAS) in adolescents and children over 12 years old and the Wong Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale used in children under 12 years old. The dosage of analgesics prescribed during hospitalization was also measured and signs such as sweating, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure were checked daily. It was expected that with the proposed treatment, pain scales would present scores below 4, analgesic dosage would decrease and vital signs would remain stable.

Improvement in fatigue, measured in the first and last session using the questionnaire The PedsQL™ Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (PedsQL–MFS) consisting of three sub-scales (general fatigue, in relation to sleep/rest and cognitive fatigue). It uses a five-point Likert scale, which is transformed into a scale from zero to 100 (1=100, 2=75, 3=50, 4=25, 5=0). Higher scores indicate lesser fatigue symptoms. This instrument has a specific version for self-reports by children and adolescents, divided by age groups (8-12 years; 13 to 18 years).;To assess the symptoms of nausea and quality of life, the "Pediatric Quality of Life™ (PedsQL™) Cancer Module 3.0" was used, on the first and last day of care, it consists of a multidimensional instrument to assess the impact of the disease and treatment in individuals affected by childhood neoplasms. It uses a five-point Likert scale, which is transformed into a scale from zero to 100 (1=100, 2=75, 3=50, 4=25, 5=0). This instrument has a specific version for self-reports by children and adolescents, divided by age groups (8-12 years; 13 to 18 years).;Laboratory tests were performed every 48 hours, and hematocrit, hemoglobin, platelets and leukocytes were measured in the hospital laboratory. Hematocrit was expected between 35 and 44%, hemoglobin between 10.5 and 14.8 g/dL, platelets between 150,000 and 450,000 mm3 and leukocytes between 5,000 and 14,500/mm³.
