PRO Group (n = 17): 17 patients will be submitted to a session of scraping and root planing, lasting approximately 2 hour using ultrasound and curettes manuals and then receive the probiotic Lactobaci

Eligibility

Age
30 Years to 70 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged between 30 and 70 years old; diagnosis of severe generalized chronic periodontitis; heavy smokers (more than 10 cigarettes per day for more than 5 years) and at least 15 teeth in mouth, excluding third molars.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Medical disorders that require antibiotic prophylaxis or who could influence the response of the treatment; having received treatment for periodontal scaling and root planing in the last 6 months; having consumed drugs that affect the periodontal tissues in the last 6 months (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants or calcium channel blockers); pregnancy; prosthetic rehabilitations extensive carrier; in orthodontic treatment; patients with metabolic disorders such as diabetes; immune disorders; alcohol and illicit drug use.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Clinical attachment gain, within 6 months, this was verified by periodontal probing with clinical insertion level and data tabulation for mean reduction analysis of at least 1mm.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Probing depth reduction, visible plaque index, bleeding on probing, gingival recession, number of residual pockets within 6 months, verified by periodontal probing with clinical insertion level and data tabulation for mean reduction analysis.
