Eligibility

Age
28 Days to 14 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: age between 28 days of age and 14 years; patients with hemodynamic stability defined as age-appropriate heart rate and blood pressure (between the 10th and 90th percentiles); patients with respiratory stability defined as an adequate respiratory rate for age and arterial O2 saturation greater than 94% measured by pulse oximetry; availability of the researcher responsible for carrying out the ultrasound examination;

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with anatomical changes in the cervical region; postoperative of otorhinolaryngological surgeries; patients with traumatic brain injury; impossibility of mobilization of the cervical region; patients with anatomical cardiac and / or arterial changes; hemodynamically unstable patients according to heart rate and blood pressure appropriate for their age (between the 10th and 90th percentiles); patients with respiratory instability defined as respiratory rate inappropriate for age and arterial O2 saturation below 94% measured by pulse oximetry; intense psychomotor agitation that impairs the ultrasound examination.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The aim is to find a correlation between the cardiac index directly assessed by doppler echocardiography and estimated by doppler ultrasound of the common carotid artery of children admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit. For this, Pearson's correlation coefficient will be used.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes are not expected.
