Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individuals of both sexes; regardless of age; with a clinical diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease; classified as stage 3 or 4 on the Hoehn and Yahr scale; and who agreed to participate in the study by signing the Informed Consent Form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Individuals with neurological disorders other than Parkinson’s disease; cognitive deficits that prevented performance of assessments; scores lower than 8 on the 10 Point Cognitive Screener; those undergoing Physiotherapy at screening; those who had undergone Physiotherapy less than 1 month before enrollment; or those with a Deep Brain Stimulation device were excluded

Expected outcome 1: An improvement in postural control is expected, as assessed by the Mini Balance Evaluation Systems Test, considering an increase of 3.4 points in the total score as the minimum clinically significant difference. Both groups are expected to improve after the intervention; however, the Experimental Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, is expected to demonstrate greater improvement than the Placebo Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with placebo Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation;Observed outcome 1: An improvement in postural control was observed, as assessed by the Mini Balance Evaluation Systems Test, in both groups after the intervention. However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the Experimental Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, and the Placebo Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with placebo Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, indicating no additional benefit of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation

Both groups are expected to improve after the intervention; however, the Experimental Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, is expected to demonstrate greater improvement than the Placebo Group, submitted to Postural Control Training associated with placebo Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation;Observed outcome 2: An improvement in gait was observed, as assessed by the 10-Meter Walk Test, in both groups after the intervention.
