Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male sex; age between 18 and 40 years; judo or jiu-jitsu athletes; minimum training frequency of three times per week with one-hour sessions; minimum practical experience of six months in the modality

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Occurrence of a musculoskeletal injury; failure to attend the scheduled test dates; having an allergy to the substances proposed in the study; reporting any negative effect that impairs physical well being during the experiment

To evaluate the effect of a carbohydrate mouth rinse on intermittent dynamic strength-endurance performance of the upper body. Verified through the intermittent judogi dynamic strength endurance test, which consisted of three bouts of maximal judogi pulling repetitions, separated by 3-minute recovery intervals. The primary outcome was the total number of repetitions completed across all bouts combined, and a statistically significant increase of 12.3% was observed in the intervention (carbohydrate) group compared to placebo.

To evaluate the effect of a carbohydrate mouth rinse on the rating of perceived exertion and maximal handgrip strength. The rating of perceived exertion was verified using the Borg Scale immediately after each exercise bout. Maximal handgrip strength was verified using a digital dynamometer after each exercise bout. It was observed that the rating of perceived exertion increased progressively throughout the exercise but did not differ between the carbohydrate and placebo conditions; maximal handgrip strength remained unchanged and showed no differences between conditions.
