Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Will be included participants older than 18 years; both sexes; ischemic stroke or TIA; modified Rankin scale (mRS less or equal 2); chronic phase (6 to 12 months of the onset of symptoms); clinically stable for the study after medical approval.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with hemorrhagic stroke; mRS more than 2; uncontrolled hypertension (systolic blood pressure more than 150 mm Hg); history of angina in the last three months; uncontrolled epilepsy; heart rate of persistent atrial fibrillation or permanent and/or rate of artificial pacemaker; presence of mitral and/or aortic valvular stenosis; presence of heart failure grade IV - stage D; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); life expectancy less than 6 months.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Improvement equal to or above 300 meters in the walk test of six minutes in the next week after 16 weeks of intervention.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
a) Neurological evaluation: improvement in 15% of NIHSS, mRS and Barthel scales after the intervention; b) Nutritional assessment: improvement in range of 5 to 10% of total body fat rate after the intervention; c) Cardiologic evaluation: improvement in left ventricular mass of 8 to 12 g/m2.7 the echocardiogram after the intervention, and decrease in 7 mmHg of the systolic blood pressure and 5 mmHg of diastolic blood pressure by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) after the intervention; d) Laboratory tests: improvement of the inflammatory response in the range of 30 to 50% after the intervention; e) Quality of life: improvement in 15% of the perception on the scale of quality of life after the intervention.
