Conditions

Cardiac patients older than 18 years, with indication for cardiac surgery

Interventions

Twenty-seven patients, over 18 years old, with indication for cardiac surgery participated in the study. The volunteers were divided by simple randomization into an electrostimulation group, where the

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers of both sexes, over 18, in the preoperative period of cardiac surgery; do not use a pacemaker and do not have arrhythmias

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: intraoperative complications; need for a pacemaker in the postoperative period; respiratory rate above 35 breaths per minute; peripheral oxygen saturation below 90%; systolic blood pressure above 180 mmHg or below 90 mmHg before the start of the protocol in the intensive care unit

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
An increase in sympathetic activity and vagal reduction is expected after the interventions evaluated by means of heart rate variability in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery, with no cut-off point for this variable.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes are not expected
