Hamstring strain injury in football (soccer) players

Interventions

This is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial with two parallel arms and assessor-independent randomization. One hundred athletes with hamstring muscle injuries will be randomly allocated to two gro

Age
14 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Athletes of both sexes; aged 14 years or older; affiliated with Brazilian football clubs competing at youth or professional level; clinical diagnosis of hamstring muscle injury by the club physician within the previous 24 hours; injury confirmed by ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging within 72 hours; rehabilitation conducted entirely within the medical department of a participating club; availability of a handheld dynamometer and smartphone based goniometry application at the participating club; written informed consent from parents or legal guardians for participants younger than 18 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Complete muscle rupture; indication for surgical treatment; concomitant musculoskeletal injuries likely to interfere with rehabilitation outcomes; recurrence or exacerbation of the primary injury during rehabilitation; rehabilitation not conducted entirely within the medical department of a participating club
