| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Expected primary outcome 1: Higher averages, in the post-test after 15 days, with statistical significance, of the Religious / Spiritual Coping of the patients in the Intervention Group (submitted to prayer), when compared to the patients in the Control Group (not exposed to prayer), measured by the brief religious-spiritual Coping Scale, which was answered by the participants in the pre- and post-test measurements. Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests were used for intergroup comparison. The level of significance was set at 5% and the 95% confidence interval for all tests.;Effectively observed outcome 1: in the post-test, both groups showed a significant increase in Religious / Spiritual Coping: the mean of the Control Group went from 2.57 to 2.64 (p = 0.001); and that of the Intervention Group went from 2.35 to 2.48 (p = 0.015). The Groups were similar in the mean obtained in the post-test (p = 0.116).;Expected primary outcome 2: Higher medians, in the post-test, with statistical significance, of the Hope Score of patients in the Intervention Group (submitted to prayer), when compared to patients in the Control Group (not exposed to prayer), measured by the Herth Hope Scale, which was answered in the pre- and post-test measurements. For intergroup comparison, Friedman's Tests were used. The level of significance was set at 5% and the 95% confidence interval.;Effectively observed outcome 2: in the post-test, both groups showed a significant increase in the Hope Score: the mean of the Control Group went from 44.13 to 46.35 (p = 0.001); and that of the Intervention Group went from 44.13 to 46.35 (p = 0.000).;Expected primary outcome 3: lowest averages, in the post-test, with statistical significance, of the Anxiety of patients in the Intervention Group (submitted to prayer), when compared to patients in the Control Group (not exposed to prayer), measured by the State Anxiety Inventory , which was answered by the participants in the pre- and post-test measurements.
