Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction of backache after 15 hydrotherapy sessions . Assessed before and after each service through the Visual Analogue Scale . This instrument was used to assess the intensity and pain perception , ranging from 0 to 10, 0 is not pain and 10 is maximum pain a person can. ;There was a statistically significant difference between pre hydrotherapy pain before starting the study and post hydrotherapy at the end (p < 0.001). The pain was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test demonstrating the value 5,11 in the 1st session and 1,67 to finish the procedure.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Improved functional capacity after the last hydrotherapy session , valued at 1 ° and 15 ° session through the IFO survey ( Functional Index of Oswestry ) used for functional assessment of low back pain measures and incorporating physical activity. The degree of functional disability is classified by : Minimum dysfunction , moderate dysfunction , severe dysfunction and functional disability. Increased muscle strength of upper abdominal and lower after 15 hydrotherapy sessions . Muscle strength was evaluated in the first and last session for comparison of results . This was assessed through two specific tests for abdominal region by Lovett scale. ;The Oswestry Functional Index was applied before the intervention and obtained 27% of participants with degree of functional disability, which is the most serious degree of this scale . At the end of treatment only 11% of patients remained in this classification. In the first evaluation of higher no patient abdominal strength obtained Normal graduation or Good . In the last evaluation , after 15 hydrotherapy sessions , more than half of the participants were classified in the top three strength grades of this test (Normal = 11% Good= 11% and Regular+= 33%). After the intervention , no patient had the worst graduation. In the first evaluation of lower abdominal strength it was verified that no participant reached the Normal graduation for these muscles . After the protocol application it was found that 22% of participants obtained the normal level to the lower abdomen.
