Interventions

This is an observational, cross-sectional study nested within a cohort, to be conducted in Maceió, AL, with a representative sample (n = 583) of people living with HIV under clinical follow-up at thre
aerobic fitness (via the modified Canadian Aerobic Fitness Test or the 2-minute step test)
muscular fitness (via handgrip strength, arm curl test, chair stand test, and the Short Physical Performance Battery)
body fat and arm muscle area (via anthropometry)
muscle mass (via ultrasound)
phase angle (via bioelectrical impedance)
blood pressure (via automatic oscillometric device)
total cholesterol, fractions, and triglycerides (via lipid profile)
blood glucose
C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha
as well as carotid intima-media thickness and the presence of atherosclerotic plaque (via ultrasound).

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Assess the phase angle and cardiovascular risk factors (lipid-glycemic-inflammatory, vascular, and metabolomic profiles) in People Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, verified using bioelectrical impedance, blood laboratory analysis, ultrasound, and blood pressure measurements, based on the observation of raw phase angle values in degrees, serum biomarker concentrations, carotid intima-media thickness in millimeters, and blood pressure values in millimeters of mercury

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Assess phase angle, physical activity, sedentary behavior, aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, and body composition (body fat and muscle mass), verified using bioelectrical impedance, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, accelerometry, motor performance tests, and anthropometry, based on the observation of raw phase angle values in degrees, movement volume in minutes, strength indices in kilograms, and body measurements in percentages and centimeters
