Eligibility

Age
60 Years to 79 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Voluntary older adults of either sex, aged 60 to 79 years, with a diagnosis of vestibular dysfunction and mild cognitive impairment, who have an indication for vestibular rehabilitation and have provided written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute vestibular disease; moderate or greater hearing loss; uncorrected visual impairment; severe traumatic brain injury; mobility limitations preventing the performance of postural assessments or vestibular rehabilitation exercises; use of vestibular suppressant medications, sedatives, or anticonvulsants; previous vestibular rehabilitation within the past 6 months; uncompensated metabolic and/or cardiovascular conditions; illiteracy; inability to understand the instructions required to complete the questionnaires, rating scales, and neurocognitive tests

To evaluate changes in cognitive performance in the domains of verbal episodic memory and visuospatial abilities in older adults with chronic peripheral vestibulopathy and mild cognitive impairment undergoing conventional vestibular rehabilitation or immersive virtual reality-based vestibular rehabilitation, using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test and the Rey Complex Figure Test and analyzing changes in cognitive scores obtained before the intervention and after completion of the ten vestibular rehabilitation sessions

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate changes in global cognitive performance, attention, processing speed, executive function, and working memory using the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination-Revised, the Trail Making Test, and the Digit Span Test and analyzing changes in cognitive scores and completion times obtained before the intervention and after completion of the ten vestibular rehabilitation sessions;To evaluate changes in postural control and functional limits of stability using the Limit of Stability test performed with the Biodex Balance System and analyzing directional control, reaction time, movement velocity, endpoint excursion, and maximum excursion obtained before the intervention and after completion of the ten vestibular rehabilitation sessions;To evaluate changes in fall risk and the sensory components of balance using Vertiguard computerized posturography and analyzing the individual fall risk percentage and the relative values of the visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive components obtained before the intervention and after completion of the ten vestibular rehabilitation sessions
