Interventions

Patients between 18 and 80 years old who have a presumed or confirmed diagnosis of sepsis, admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) requiring invasive ventilatory support through tracheal intubation w
2ml between 50-100Kg. A second dose may be administered at any time during the tracheal intubation procedure. The metaraminol solution will be prepared as follows: 1ml metaraminol hemitartrate 10mg/ml

Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients within 18 to 80 years old with presumed or confirmed sepsis diagnose admitted to the ICU and requiring invasive ventilation through tracheal intubation will be randomized to one of two groups

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with sistolic blood pressure higher than 160 and / or diastolic blood pressure higher than 100mmHg; heart rate below 65bpm; angina pectoris, suspected of acute ischemic stroke; suspected of aortic dissection; being in use of vasopressor

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find a difference in the need for vasopressors in the sixth hour after the orotracheal intubation procedure, using as a method for this evaluation the nursing records in the spreadsheet of vital signs and medications in use, based on the finding of a difference of, at least, 5% in measurements between groups exposed or not to the intervention

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected to find a difference in the number of cardiac arrests during the tracheal intubation procedure, using as a method for this evaluation the clinical examination of palpation of the central pulse, based on the verification of a difference of, at least, 5% in measurements between groups exposed or not to the intervention; It is expected to find a difference in the number of organ dysfunctions on days 0, 1, 3 and 7 after tracheal intubation, using the SOFA score as a method for this evaluation, based on the finding of a difference of, at least, 5% in the measurements between groups exposed or not to the intervention; It is expected to find a difference in the need for vasopressors in the first hour after the orotracheal intubation procedure, using as a method for this evaluation the nursing records in the spreadsheet of vital signs and medications in use, based on the observation of a difference of, at least, 5% in measurements between groups exposed or not to the intervention
