Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Age between eighteen and thirty years years old; regular menstrual cycle for women between twenty two and thirty five days for at least six months; right handed confirmed by the Edinburgh Lateral Dominance Inventory; not using hormonal contraceptive agents for at least six months; having no history of neurological or psychiatric illness; not using psychotropic drugs; primary hearing or visual impairment that cannot be improved with corrective lenses or hearing aids.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Having a progesterone level less than ten nmol per liter on any day of the luteal phase reporting a period of the regular cycle as it is an indication of the lack of an ovulatory cycle; pregnancy; score on the Mini Mental State Examination scale below twenty four or twenty five points.

| Executive control of movement inhibition is greater in the luteal phase (with high levels of progesterone) when compared to the menstrual and follicular phases (with low levels of progesterone). Executive control will be investigated by the event-related synchronization of the electroencephalography alpha and beta frequency bands on the frontal and central regions during the execution of two variations of the Go/No Go Test. The increase in alpha and beta synchronization is associated with movement inhibition. The go/no go paradigm centered on stimulus 2 (S2) and centered on stimulus 1 (S1) were applied to test this outcome. In the S2-centered paradigm, two sound stimuli were presented (S1 and S2). S1 was a bass beep indicating attention and S2 could be a bass beep indicating that the wrist extension movement should be performed as soon as possible or treble beep, indicating that no movement should be performed. The definition “centered on S2” means that it was only possible at the second beep to identify whether the movement should be performed or not. The synchronization of alpha and beta over the frontal and central regions immediately after the treble S2 (command to inhibit movement) will be used as a measure of movement inhibition in the S2-centered paradigm. In the S1-centered paradigm, two sound stimuli (S1 and S2) of the same tone were presented. When both beeps were bass, the participants performed the wrist extension movement as quickly as possible after S2. When both beeps were treble, the participants did not perform any movement. The definition “centered on S1” means that in the first beep it was possible to identify whether the movement should be performed or not. | The activity in the sensory motor region measured by the desynchronization of the mu rhythm (mu-alpha: 8-12Hz and mu-beta: 15-30 Hz) of electroencephalography varies according to blood levels of estradiol and progesterone. The desynchronization of the mu rhythm correlates positively with the blood concentration of estradiol in the follicular phase (high concentration of estradiol) and negatively with the blood concentration of progesterone in the luteal phase (high concentration of progesterone), or even, with the progesterone / estradiol ratio in the luteal phase (high concentration of progesterone and estradiol). The participants underwent blood collection for estrogen and progesterone measurement and the kinesthetic motor imaging and action observation protocols that generate the mu rhythm over the central regions of electroencephalography.
