Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Dental students from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora Governador Valadares campus, regardless of gender, social class, or religious belief; Extracted teeth permanent molars and premolars extracted for periodontal reasons, sound and/or with caries lesions in enamel and dentin

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Students those who have not passed the course Dental Radiology I or Basic Dental Radiology; Extracted teeth with coronal restorations, endodontic access, coronal fractures, or partial or total coronal destruction

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
It is expected that there will be an improvement of over 10% in the accuracy rate of diagnoses of proximal and occlusal caries, assessed using interproximal radiographs taken by the experimental group immediately after exposure to the artificial intelligence intervention

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
As secondary outcomes, diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for caries lesions will be evaluated in order to compare the results between the experimental and control groups. The influence of the type of caries lesion on diagnostic performance will also be assessed, distinguishing between interproximal and occlusal lesions. Another secondary outcome will be the comparison of the diagnostic ability of students in the experimental group before and after the use of artificial intelligence, allowing the identification of performance gains associated with the intervention.
