Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Pregnant women with between 18 and 45 years; with beginning the follow-up at Maternidade Escola, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro until 20 gestational weeks; chronic non transmissible diseases-free, except obesity; infectious diseases-free; gestating single fetus; with intention to deliver at the Maternidade Escola, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Pregnant women smokers; with low weight in early pregnancy calculated by the Body Mass Index, less than 18.5 kilograms per square meter.

| From the cohort data, it is expected to find a positive association between maternal redox status and placental function and antioxidant intake, as well as an association between intestinal microbiota and maternal and placental inflammatory markers. Similarly, it is expected to find a positive relationship between high AGE (advanced glycation end-products) food intake and AGE (advanced glycation end-products) activation markers in the placenta and blood. Thus, it is expected to identify dietary factors associated with obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus and associated complications and thus contribute with information that serve as a basis for nutritional guidelines for pregnant women. From the in vitro data, antioxidants are expected to preserve the mitochondrial function of placenta models in hyperglycemic stress and with AGE (advanced glycation end-products) and this effect will result in less activation of reticulum stress pathways and placental dysfunction. From the characterization of the mechanism of action of antioxidants in the preservation of placental function, it is expected to be able to identify functional biomarkers in the urine and maternal blood associated with placental function that serve as a prognosis of gestational complications such as GDM. Additionally, from the nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomic approach of urine, maternal blood and placenta samples, it is expected to identify ingestion biomarkers associated with maternal redox and inflammatory status. It is hoped that it will be possible to identify early signs of placental dysfunction through hyperglycemic stress, which could potentially contribute to the understanding of the preventive properties of antioxidants and polyphenols related to inflammatory diseases. | — |

| Placental lipid metabolism: To investigate the alterations in lipid metabolism as a function of pre-gestational maternal obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus. Lipid metabolism will be assessed by lipidomics using mass spectrometry to identify the major categories and lipid species in maternal, fetal and placental tissue.
