Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Gestational diabetes mellitus according to the International Association Diabetes Pregnancy Study Group criteria; gestation between 24 and 34 weeks at the time of entry into the study; anticipated follow-up in the service for at least 4 weeks; single gestation with a live fetus; personal mobile phone; literate patient capable of using the WhatsApp application

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Women who were unable to recall consumed food; pregnant individuals prescribed medication at the first appointment; patients with digestive system pathologies; a history of any type of bariatric surgery; or those who discontinued follow-up in the service in less than 4 weeks were excluded

Expected outcome 1: We expect to find a difference in glycemic control outcomes when using social media as an intervention in pregnant women with diabetes, compared to pregnant women with the same condition but without the use of social media messaging. By employing the method of sending daily nutritional recommendation messages via WhatsApp to pregnant women with diabetes, randomized against a control group that received guidance only during in-person consultations, we will observe through capillary blood glucose measurements whether the intervention is responsible for differences in glycemic indices;Found outcome 1: We found a difference in glycemic control in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh weeks of follow-up. There was no difference in the first, second and eighth weeks. Glycemic control was better in women who received messages via WhatsApp

Expected outcome 2: We expect to find a difference in the results of calorie and macronutrient consumption when using social media as an intervention in pregnant women with diabetes, compared to pregnant women with the same condition but without the use of social media messaging. Using the method of sending WhatsApp messages with daily nutritional recommendations to pregnant women with diabetes, randomized against a control group that received guidance only during in-person consultations, we will observe through a 24-hour recall if the intervention is responsible for differences in macronutrient consumption;Found outcome 2: There was no difference in caloric intake between the groups. There were specific differences in protein, lipid and fiber consumption in the group that received messages via WhatsApp. ;Expected outcome 3: We expect to find a difference in the use of pharmacological therapy, with less need for insulin therapy in the intervention group, which received nutritional messages via WhatsApp.
