Interventions

Strength training in self-selected intensity group: 16 subjects will undergo supervised strength training 3 times per week. The program consists of 12 weeks. Eight strength exercises will be performed

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Woman; age between 60 and 70 years; body mass index between 18.5 and 30 kg/m2; insufficiently active

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Signs and symptoms of cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic or renal diseases; severe musculoskeletal problems that limit the practice of physical activity; not presenting medical authorization; positive response in any item in the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q); ex-smoker or smoking status

Increase of the isokinetic muscle strength after 12 weeks of strength training, verified through of peak torque, from the observation of a variation of at least 10% in the pre- and post-intervention measurements. Increase of the isometric muscle strength after 12 weeks of strength training, verified through of handgrip test, from the observation of a variation of at least 20% in the pre- and post-intervention measurements. Increased of the functional isotonic muscle strength after 12 weeks of strength training, verified through of 30-second chair stand, from the observation of a variation of at least 25% in the pre- and post-intervention measurements. Increased of the fat mass after 12 weeks of strength training, verified through of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, from the observation of a variation of at least 3% in the pre- and post-intervention measurements.
