Interventions

The intervention used in this study is the physical training of the whole body vibration. For this, the study will include three groups, namely: Vibration group: composed by 25 subjects with COPD, who
Non-vibration group: composed by 25 subjects with COPD, that will not do the training of whole body vibration (no treatment)
Control group: composed by 25 subjects without COPD, that will not do the training of whole body vibration. The training of the whole body vibration will be performed three times weekly, in intervals

Eligibility

Age
45 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 75 subjects of both genders; with stable COPD; age between 45 and 80 years; women after menopause.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute or chronic associated disease not stable; included in some form of physical training; use of antiinflammatory and immunosuppressive medications.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Increase of functional capacity, checked by the six-minute walk test, from the observation of increase of walking distance at least 60 meters after training. Moreover, reduction of inflammatory and oxidative markers, measured by ELISA and protocols published in literature, verified by reduction of plasma cytokines levels, oxidative markers and levels of antioxidant enzymes. There is no consensus in the literature about the values about these variables that show the expected improvements using the proposed intervention (whole body vibration).This results will be evaluated by comparing the pre and post training by performing statistical tests.

MeasureTime frame
Increase of muscle strength of the limbs, measured by reducing the time spent on the test sitting and standing chair and increase of handgrip strength; improved of the agility, measured by reducing the time spent on the Timed get up and go test; improved quality of life, measured by the reduction of the score Saint George questionnaire. There is no consensus in the literature about the values about these variables that show the expected improvements using the proposed intervention (whole body vibration). The results will be evaluated by comparing the pre and post training by performing statistical tests.
