Eligibility

Age
18 Years to 65 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Systemically healthy individuals; both sexes; age between 18 and 65 years; history of periodontal disease; non-smokers; glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) <5.7%; presence of at least one dental implant in function for a minimum of 1 year; rehabilitation with Plenum® dental implants (Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil), manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V ELI titanium alloy with a Morse taper connection; presence of at least one periodontally healthy tooth in the same dental arch and in the contralateral hemiarch to the implant

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of uncontrolled systemic diseases, such as cardiac, renal, gastrointestinal, hepatic, pulmonary, neurological, psychiatric, hematological, or metabolic disorders; continuous use of medication initiated less than 3 months before enrollment; pregnancy or breastfeeding; inability to undergo the clinical procedures or examinations required by the study; smokers; glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) =5.7%; use of systemic antibiotics within the previous 6 months; inability to attend the study assessments

MeasureTime frame
A mean difference in the hydrogen potential (pH) of the peri-implant environment is expected to be found between patients with peri-implant health and those diagnosed with peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, assessed by pH measurement within a 0–14 range using a single junction micro stem glass combination pH electrode

Differences in the microorganisms present around dental implants are expected to be found at different stages of the disease and according to the hydrogen potential (pH) of the peri-implant environment, verified through microbiological testing of the collected peri-implant biofilm;Information on the gene expression of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines is expected to be found at different stages of the disease and according to the hydrogen potential (pH) of the peri-implant environment, assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of collected gingival tissue;Information on gene expression at the single-cell level is expected to be found, providing insights into cellular heterogeneity and biological processes at different stages of the disease and according to the hydrogen potential (pH) of the peri-implant environment, assessed through single-cell analysis of collected gingival tissue
