Interventions

The study was conducted as a randomized clinical trial, in which 39 smokers were allocated by simple randomization into four groups: Group 1 (n = 11), participants who underwent exclusively Transcrani
Group 2 (n = 10), participants who first received Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and subsequently Aerobic Physical Exercise (APE)
Group 3 (n = 9), participants who first performed Aerobic Physical Exercise followed by Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation
and Group 4 (n = 9), participants who underwent Aerobic Physical Exercise and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation simultaneously. A randomized clinical trial was carried out with a pre- and post-t
G2 (1st tDCS, 2nd APE)
G3 (1st APE, 2nd tDCS)
and G4 (APE and tDCS simultaneously), totaling 39 participants. Blinding was applied exclusively to the volunteers, who were unaware of the central hypothesis and did not have access to the conditions

Age
18 Years to 60 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age between 18 and 60 years; both sexes; being in stable clinical condition, without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and without the need for hospital care; being on a waiting list for smoking cessation treatment centers in the city of Maceió, Brazil; intention to quit smoking; not participating in any type of smoking cessation treatment

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; need for hospital care; unstable clinical conditions that prevent safe participation in aerobic exercise or transcranial direct current stimulation; current participation in any smoking cessation treatment; inability to understand or sign the Informed Consent Form; refusal to participate in the study or to continue at any stage of the research

Expected outcome 1: A reduction in the urge to smoke is expected after the intervention, verified using the Questionnaire of Smoking Urges–Brief (QSU B), based on measurable decreases in scores between pre and post intervention assessments;Outcome found 1: A reduction in the urge to smoke was observed, verified using the QSU B, based on significant decreases in scores, particularly in groups G2 (32.95%; p = 0.0307) and G4 (50.13%; p = 0.0037), confirming that the expected primary outcome was achieved
